Last week at the Metal Box Factory, Rogan Productions held an event in collaboration with the Balvenie distillery that screened a series of short films made for the Balvenie, including the first public screening of our latest commission Twilight of the Masters. The night celebrated craftsmanship in many forms: From the exhibition in the atrium of the building curated by Contemporary Applied Arts, to the handcrafted whiskies supplied by The Balvenie and the content of the films screened. Guests sampled a selection of whiskies with Jonathon Cornthwaite (Brand Ambassador for the Balvenie distillery). One of the whiskies sampled on the night was The Balvenie’s Signature Whisky, a spectacular 12-year old single malt that captures the Balvenie’s distinctive character of honey, spice and subtle oak.
After a screening of two of our short films made for the Balvenie, The Craft Experience and the Balvenie Morgan, the night ended with a screening of our latest film Twilight of the Masters. Twilight of the Masters offers a moving portrait of some of the world’s greatest craftsmen at work, uncovering the inner musings of 3 master craftsmen in the twilight hours of their career.
The film follows David Stewart from the Balvenie – the longest serving malt-master in the Scottish whisky industry, Warren Mackenzie – master potter and one-time apprentice of the late British master Bernard Leach, and Kazuo Myojin – master knife and samurai sword maker.
For those who were unable to make the event, Twilight of the Masters is now available to watch online.
