Co-produced by BBC Studios and Rogan Productions, our latest documentary ‘One Night in 2012’ is due to broadcast on BBC One on 12th July 2016. Join Alan Yentob on a journey through time as he takes us back to the summer of 2012. In this Olympic Imagine Special, One Night in 2012, director Danny Boyle is reunited with the Opening Ceremony creative team to explain the thinking, ambition and challenges that went into creating “The Greatest Show on Earth”.
With exclusive access to behind-the-scenes footage from audition through to the night itself, this is the story of 90 minutes that rekindled a country’s faith in itself and dazzled the world when it mattered – on the night. It was a warm-up act like no other.
This documentary will also give a voice to some of the 7,500 volunteers, with their stories forming the spine of the film. Though many of these people were non-professionals, they formed a bond that made the world sit up and take notice. This is a unique glimpse into the friendships that were forged, the talents that were discovered and the lives that were changed.
The BBC will also be producing a myriad of additional programmes and content to coincide with Rio 2016 including Mo, a one-hour BBC One special on double Olympic champion Mo Farah giving a personal insight into the man behind the Mobot. This is as well as One Night in 2012 – an Imagine special in which Danny Boyle explains the thinking, ambition and challenges that went into creating the London 2012 Opening Ceremony; and a series of BBC Sport specials on the 2016 Team GB hopefuls.
