Stephen: The Murder that Changed a Nation

BBC One

BAFTA NOMINEE for Best Factual Director (James Rogan)
‘Without doubt the finest long-form documentary to be seen on terrestrial TV this year,’ THE GUARDIAN
★★★★★ ‘Devastating’ THE TELEGRAPH | ★★★★★ THE TIMES

Directed by James Rogan, this “landmark” documentary series examines one of the most notorious cases of 20th century Britain, the murder of 18-year-old black student, Stephen Lawrence by a group of white teenage boys. What ensued was one of the longest, most complex and mishandled murder investigations in the history of the Metropolitan Police; allowing the suspected killers to evade justice for nearly two decades.

This series made waves when it was broadcast and helped spark a national debate. As a result, Rogan Productions were recently commissioned to cut down the films for BBC Teach – a classroom resource for teachers. The episodes cover topics of diversity, identity, institutional racism, democracy and justice and can be found here.
