Mark Hedgecoe joins Rogan Productions to head up new venture, Rogan Scotland

Rogan Productions has today announced the launch of Rogan Scotland, the company’s new production and development base in Glasgow, as well as confirming the appointment of Mark Hedgecoe as Head of Rogan Scotland. 

Mark joins from the BBC, having most recently led Pacific Quay Productions for BBC Studios in Glasgow. Reporting into Rogan Productions’ London head office, Mark will spearhead the launch of Rogan Scotland and is responsible for overseeing all production and development from the Glasgow base. 

The move marks a significant expansion for the company, which was co-founded by husband and wife duo James and Soleta Rogan in 2013. Over the past eight years Rogan Productions has produced a number of high-profile films which have sparked national debate, including recent BAFTA-nominated Putin: A Russian Spy Story for Channel 4 and the critically-acclaimed BBC documentaries Black Power: A British Story Of Resistance, Grierson Trust Documentary Award shortlisted Subnormal: A British Scandal and Uprisingdirected by Sir Steve McQueen and James Rogan.

Rogan Scotland has recently secured its first commission with Frida(w/t), a three part docu-series for the BBC, which explores the personal and political life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and her relationship with Diego Rivera. The Rogan Scotland production will be directed by Louise Lockwood, produced by Becky Marshall and executive produced by Nancy Bornat, Mark Hedgecoe and James Rogan.

Mark has been based in Glasgow for the past decade. He led Pacific Quay Productions from when BBC Studios started and prior to that, ran the BBC’s Arts production team across the UK and was Deputy Head of BBC Science production. Mark has worked in factual programming for over 25 years and has won numerous awards across multiple genres.  In recent years his film The Challenger, about Richard Feynman’s investigation into the space shuttle disaster was awarded the RTS for Best Single Drama; the series Operation Iceberg received the RTS for Best Science Programme, BAFTA Scotland for Best Factual Programme and a Jackson Hole award; and his film The Girl Who Talked To Dolphins was shortlisted for the RTS, Grierson and BAFTA Scotland.
